New Assistant Manager

We are pleased to announce that Marc Nash has been appointed Assistant Manager of Whitley Bay FC.
Marc, who has been manager of the very successful reserves side for the past seven years, will take responsibility for leading the coaching of the first team squad. We would like to congratulate Marc on his appointment.

Speaking after his appointment Marc reflected on his time with the Reserves.

“Winning trophies has been great but I’ve always deemed those occasions as something for the players to remember. I’m more pleased with the ongoing teambuilding of excellent young players and getting the reserves into a position where most of the players can develop into first team regulars. We always try to play good football from the back and there is a clear understanding of the way I like the game to be played which the players buy in to, almost to the point where I hardly need to speak during games. That takes time and takes the right players with the right attitudes and commitment. Only then can you start to consistently challenge for honours. The Reserves have reached that point now and with the likes of Alex Kempster, Dillon Blake and Andy Robertson moving up, we just find younger replacements to fill the void and we go again. The Reserves are now in good hands with Neil Cooper and Gav Hattrick continuing the work.”

Looking to the future he added “I’m delighted to be given the opportunity albeit a year earlier than planned! I’ve worked extremely hard for the club and this is the next step for me. The chairman and the manager in particular realise there is a boatload of talent in the reserves and want to make sure they make the transition, when the time is right, into the first team and with my presence it will help them. I’m hoping I can help bring a stability to the first team squad which has been like a revolving door in the past 2 years. We want players that care passionately about the club and players who are fully committed and who can help make us competitive in every single game. That’s a great starting point to build for the future because a quick fix is never really the answer and isn’t sustainable. Myself and Chan will be demanding high standards and hopefully we can mould a team that can both entertain the fans and give their all. With patience, results and success will not be far away.”
