In a shock decision announced yesterday (Tuesday) less than four weeks before the start of the season, Team Northumbria have resigned from the Northern League. The University based club have said the decision is a result of “rebalancing the sports folio” which suggests that the funding that had been provided for the football team will be going elsewhere.
Their decision comes after the League fixtures have been announced and as things stand, the First Division will have just 19 clubs and Whitley will be without a game on Saturday 20th October and Saturday 9th March.
