Andy Gowens was pleased with the efforts of his young squad and acknowledged the part played in recent games by the reserves team. “We did really well, I had fears before the game with such a young team and limited numbers and with more injuries and Liam Brooks unavailable. They stuck at it did really well and played some great stuff; the youngsters showed what they can do. Yes it was an end of season game but they created loads of chances. It was even-stevens at half time, it could have been 3-3. We created lots of chances in the second half but it’s cruel, we switched off for a matter of seconds and they make it 2-1 and it’s hard to get back from there.”
“3-1 doesn’t really paint the right picture of the game. We got off to a bad start but then I can’t fault them really today, they did really well, as most of them have since we came in. It’s great thanks to Neil Cooper & Gav Hattrick for allowing us to bring the youngsters through from the Reserves and long may that happen. That’s a good relationship that’s hopefully going to continue.”
