Marc Nash assesses Bay performance at Team Northumbria

Marc Nash gave his thoughts on Whitley’s 3-0 win at Team Northumbria and explained what was said at half time to turn the game around. “For the second week running we’ve come out with team of the week but in truth it could have been our opponents that took the accolade such was the crazy nature of the game. We were not at the races first half and looked afraid to come out and play against a very good footballing team. We were sloppy in possession and unable to get any foothold at all apart from a couple of counter attacks. However, it’s not our problem that Team North didn’t punish us and we turned it around in the second half because we were still in the game. Half time was crucial to try and change our approach and mentality. We wanted to press them more as a unit and to get our two central midfielders further up the pitch rather than playing safe by sitting too close to our defence. It was as if we froze because a team was dominating the ball against us and we were out of our comfort zone. We regrouped and reorganised and started to play but only after they missed another opportunity then we get a bit lucky with a goalkeeping error to give us the lead. The shackles were finally off and we go three up by the hour in an incredible turn around. Liam Brooks started to revel and he’s playing with confidence at the minute but again we’ve had to look after him due to his shin problems. Thibault has completed 90 minutes which was a bonus and we’ve handed yet another debut to a youngster in James Proctor who added energy and pace to our attack. It’s great calling upon these lads and Connor Campbell came on and like the others they want to impress and work ever so hard. Great to see Josh returning as well which is timely because Chris Salmon, who is in fine form, is cup tied next week. We go into the big one next Saturday in great spirits after 4 wins but I’ll be reminding the players that we need to go up a few levels in terms of performance but we are very confident.”
