“We came through with flying colours”

Marc Nash was a happy man after seeing his side come back from a goal down to secure a 5-1 FA Vase victory in very windy conditions on Humberside. “I thought it was a solid performance in some very testing conditions, certainly not helpful to try and play fast, fluent football. The grass was long and the pitch was narrow so we knew it could be a bit of a leveller but after a shaky start we came through with flying colours. We felt their early goal was a foul on Dan Lister but it was given so we had to knuckle down and get back into the game. Dan then makes a superb double save and you’re thinking this could be a tough day. We started to create and Jasper has come close before getting on the end of Kempster’s cross to level it. We were dominating now and scored two great goals to give us the cushion then Peter’s free kick has pretty much made the game safe. We asked the players at half time to try and not let the game die as we had a big following who wanted to see their team attack but we’ve come out again and the conditions had worsened. It became feisty and scrappy so we put two forwards on to try and play into their third earlier and start to create chances again. Liam Brooks was unlucky not to score but then Potter’s penalty puts some gloss on the performance and result. It was nice to get young Kieran on in better circumstances than midweek so I told him to get on and experience an FA Vase win. Probably most pleasing was that Callum Anderson has come through 90 mins and Josh, Kyle and Matty have not suffered a reaction either after missing midweek. We finally have a seven day break between games to recharge the batteries and give a couple more a chance to return next Saturday”
