Manager’s views on West Auckland game

The result was a disappointment obviously but the performance was ok. We started brightly and confidently as you’d expect but their early goal was clinical and we were rocked back. Our shape was affecting them and we started to outplay them but we’ve missed an open goal effectively to go level. It would have been a great time to score with us well in the ascendency. Then a massive blow when the injury curse struck again with Aiden having to limp off with a groin problem. I thought he was the best player on the pitch up until that stage. We put an extra striker on because we didn’t have a straight replacement in midfield and they go and land the sucker punch right on half time.

We shuffled again to get the extra man back into midfield but without players that specialise in those positions it was a tough ask for us to get back in the game. However, we fought hard and again got on top but Jasper has missed a header he’d normally put away so that was our big opportunity gone I felt. Their 3rd was a poor goal from our point of view as we had fought hard to create things then we let them clinch the game from a simple set piece. We didn’t throw the towel in which was a positive but the mounting crisis with injuries is very unsettling.   Marc
