Marc Nash was full of praise for his team’s first half display against Ashington but acknowledged that they should have been more than one goal ahead at the interval. “I don’t think anyone can argue that we were brilliant in the first half and should have been out of sight. We paid for missed chances but at least we showed again that we are a difficult team to beat and that we never give up. We changed shape to match them up and we overpowered them down the sides with Kempster in particular getting the crowd going with his pace. He deserved a piece of luck for his goal but we really should have punished them further. Half time came and broke up our momentum and Ashington knew we’d let them off the hook and credit to them they turned it right round second half hitting us twice on the break and causing us problems. I must say in recent weeks and again yesterday our subs are making fantastic contributions showing the value of having a full and fit squad to pick from. Matty Cornish came on and also immediately hit the crossbar and I was delighted for young Kyle who’s found goals hard to come by this season so far but he showed terrific bravery in heading our leveller in stoppage time. He’s a stud mark on his cheek to show for it!!”
