After the disappointing defeat at Dunston, Marc Nash gave his thoughts on the game. “After the euphoria of Tuesday night, there was always a danger of an ‘after the Lord Mayor’s show’ type performance. Frankly, we were poor first half and got out-fought in the early stages which set the tone for the whole half. The goals we gave away were sloppy and we looked off the pace which is disappointing. A crumb of comfort was that we got in three times and Kyle then Jasper twice forced saves when clear. Also Kempster was very unlucky with a header.
Some strong words were said at half time which is a rarity but it was the basic work ethic and commitment that was lacking so fully justified. I have to say the second half was all us apart from the odd breakaway and again chances came and went with shots also cleared off the line. The goal when it arrived was too little too late and I’m pretty certain there were some regrets in the changing room at the end as although we weren’t near our best we could easily have taken a point or more if it hadn’t been for the lacklustre start to the game. We reminded the players afterwards that although the cup run is great we must not let things detract from the league as that ultimately will define our season.
In their defence, its been a tough schedule with so many players missing. Maybe it caught up with us mentally and was a game too far. However, we will bounce back and hopefully there’s players returning to give us a boost.”
