We regret to announce that striker Adam Shanks has left Whitley Bay after just under two seasons at the club. He suffered ankle ligament damage in the game at Sunderland RCA in December, an injury that left him sidelined for more than two months. As part of his recovery programme he played twice for the reserves but has been unable to force his way back into the first team starting eleven and he made himself unavailable for the game at Dunston last week.
Following a meeting with Chairman Paul McIlduff and the management team on Thursday, Adam agreed to stay at the club until the end of the season but the following morning he changed his mind and requested that his contract be cancelled with immediate effect. The club reluctantly agreed to this request.
Adam, formerly at Alnwick Town, arrived at Hillheads in August 2015 and made an immediate impact, featuring in the successful FA Cup run that took Whitley to the 3rd Qualifying Round. He scored both goals in the 3-2 defeat by National League North side Chorley and was a prolific scorer, netting 42 goals last season, the most by any player in their first season at Hillheads and not surprisingly he was voted player of the year. This season he scored ten goals before his injury. In his full Bay career Adam played 77 times scoring 52 goals, an outstanding record.
