Speaking after he agreed a new contract at Hillheads, Whitley Bay captain Craig McFarlane admitted that he can’t wait to get back on the pitch.
“I’m really looking forward to the start of the season, given the way the last one was cut short due to the pandemic. Having something taken away from you so unexpectedly makes you miss it even more, so I can’t wait to get back.
“I’m feeling very optimistic and confident that we as a club can compete for everything. With Stockton, Hebburn and Shildon having been promoted gives us every chance to put a marker down and compete for the league.
“Just before the season was halted by the pandemic, we were on an impressive unbeaten run and were really starting to show what we were capable of and I expect us to start the season the way we finished.
“It would appear we have been able to hold on to the majority of our squad from last season which is good news and we still have some additions to come in, especially Jordan Fry who was injured and was unable to feature last season. I’m looking forward to playing with him as I know the quality he brings and that is only going to make what is a strong squad even stronger.”
