Ten years ago today, Whitley came through an epic FA Vase 5th Round tie in Surrey to earn a replay after a 1-1 draw at Chertsey Town. A controversial sending off – Richard Hodgson was dismissed after receiving two yellow cards – left Whitley to battle through the final stages of the second half then extra time with ten men but thanks to some outstanding defending and superb goalkeeping by Terry Burke, they forced a replay back at Hillheads the following Saturday.
Relive the excitement of the game at Alwyn’s Lane with the match report from the website archives together with the match photos from yet another memorable FA Vase tie as Whitley made their way to their second consecutive FA Vase triumph at Wembley.
