Manager Andy Gowens clearly shared the frustration and disappointment of the large following of Bay fans after Saturday’s defeat at North Shields.
“We’re being totally inconsistent in our play. We couldn’t keep the ball and control the game. I thought first half both teams were ‘bitty’. They got lucky with the penalty, which was a great run by Jordan Summerly, but it should have been dealt with before he got near the box. Then he buys a penalty, clever play on his behalf but naive on our behalf.
“In the second half they controlled the game. We tried to force the play and gave the ball away resulting in the second goal. We huffed and puffed but lacked the quality to break them down. Credit to them, they did what they needed to win the game. We need to be better and more consistent. You try to be loyal to the players after a great win (…against North Shields) on Tuesday but they again let themselves down.”
