Whitley travel to Sunderland RCA tonight for a game where both sides will be looking to put the disappointment of recent defeats behind them.
Following their FA Cup exit after a battling display at National League North side Altrincham, Saturday’s below par performance at home to Bishop Auckland proved costly for the Bay with injuries to both goalkeepers. As a result, Andy Gowens has moved quickly to sign experienced former Blyth AFC keeper Chris Bannon, who played in the FA Vase Final for North Shields in 2015. Dan Taggart, who was injured during Saturday’s warm up must be considered doubtful but Ibby Hassan could return after missing the Bishop Auckland game through suspension.
Sunderland RCA have made an impressive start to the season but they have slipped up in their last two games, losing their local derby at Ryhope CW before going down 2-0 at home to Shildon on Saturday.
Recent games between the sides at Meadow Park have mostly gone the way of the hosts but last season Whitley came away with a hard fought 1-0 victory.
Kick off is at 7.30pm.
