We are delighted to announce that we have signed defender Craig McFarlane for a second spell at Hillheads. Craig was a real fans’ favourite during his previous eight years at the club, winning numerous accolades but most memorably three FA Vase winners medals. Joining from Bedlington Terriers during the 2008/09 season, Craig made a total of 320 appearances and scored 29 goals, including some quite outstanding strikes. A defender for most of his time at the club, Craig also played as a wing back, midfielder and on a few occasions as a striker. He joined North Shields in 2016 before moving to Blyth AFC at the end of last season and is now returning to his roots. Craig, who celebrates his 31st birthday on Tuesday, will not be available until after next Saturday’s FA Cup tie, having already played in the competition for Blyth AFC, but he is eligible for the FA Vase and could make his return debut in the next round at Whickham. Two members of his family who will be delighted at his return to Hillheads are parents and loyal supporters Cliff and Sandra who we look forward to seeing back on the terraces once again!
Another signing from Blyth AFC is Liam Gillesphey, a highly regarded 24 year old midfielder, who has returned to England from a scholarship at Wingate University in America. Welcome to Whitley Bay Liam!
