After the 1-0 win at Sunderland RCA Marc Nash praised his depleted squad for the quality of their defending. “Clean sheets for us have been hard to come by but the one we got yesterday was the result of some very hard work and resolute defending. That was the foundation to a great win against a tough RCA team. We were missing a few players and had to juggle the squad a bit.
It’s been well reported that it was a ground where we’d struggled in the past but we stood up to everything they had and broke the run of defeats at RCA. We started very well and quickly got into our stride and we’ve scored whilst well on top and Kyle Patton has done brilliantly to finish off a good team move. Midway through the half we started to hand them some initiative by some silly square passes that were getting intercepted and allowing them to break on us. We survived a few scary moments but I thought we were good value for the half time lead. The second half produced a slower start for us and going up the slope proved difficult to get out sometimes so we put an extra defender on in Graham Williams just to shore everything up as we went 5-4-1. We pretty much relied on counter attacks for the remainder of the game and Kyle could have wrapped the game up but was denied 1 v 1. Again, we survived a few moments with Tom making a great save and then the ball bouncing back off our post deep into injury time. All said and done we’ve dug in for a great three points and our 8th successive away win in the league.”
