“Some of the best football we’ve seen”

Whitley’s superb 5-2 victory at Jarrow Roofing thrilled the Bay fans and also the management team, as a delighted Marc Nash explained after the game. “It’s difficult not to shout from the rooftops about a performance like that. Considering we went into the game without six regulars just makes it more impressive. It’s certainly a sign of just how good and adaptable our players can be. We changed shape to try and keep possession more and to deploy two strikers at the same time. The lads just went about their business in some style and it was a first half display that delivered some of the best football we’ve seen and that’s saying something as we’ve had particularly strong games in the past year. We wanted a winning dressing room after three league games without a win and it was pretty comprehensive in the end and should easily have been more. Our third and Jasper’s second goal was as good as it gets and the lads are revelling with the style of play we are demanding. With players returning soon this is exactly the type of competition for places we need because it gets everyone bubbling. It was the perfect night with Chris Salmon and Kieran Brannen getting their first goals for the club whilst everyone putting in performances. We can bask in the glory of a great game of football but we’ve got tough games ahead with a season defining week coming up that includes three cup matches so it’s all hands to the pump.”
